Joyeuses Pâques ! // Happy Easter!

Cette année, au bout d'un long hiver qui s'éternise, j'ai choisi de vous souhaiter à tous de GLORIEUSES FÊTES DE PÂQUES (la fête du printemps, du renouveau et de la renaissance), en partageant avec vous l'image ci-dessus. Elle offre une représentation un peu différente de ​​la résurrection et je la trouve aussi très belle et émouvante. Elle dépeint la Koimesis* de la Vierge Marie et est une de mes icônes byzantines préférées -- elle se trouve dans l'antique et magnifique basilique de Saint-Sauveur-in-Chora à Istanbul.

* Koimesis - du grec «endormissement» - est une scène qui ne figure pas dans la Bible et qui montre Marie dans un sommeil de mort, entourée par les apôtres, son âme sous la forme d'un bébé porté par le Christ. Cette scène est devenue l'une des icônes bizantines de la fête de  Pâques au onzième siècle.

This year, after a long winter that is dragging on, I chose to wish you all GLORIOUS EASTER HOLIDAYS (the festival of spring, renewal and rebirth), by posting the image above. It offers a slightly different representation of the resurrection and I also find it very beautiful and moving. It depicts the Koimesis * of the Virgin Mary and is one of my favorite Byzantine icons, located in the historic and beautiful basilica of St. Savior in Chora in Istanbul.

* Koimesis - Greek for "falling asleep" - is a scene that is not found in the Bible and that shows Mary in a sleep of death, surrounded by the Apostles, her soul in the form of a baby held by Christ. This scene has become one of the icons of the Byzantine Easter in the eleventh century.
